Star Wars actor Mark Hamill has praised a young boy for channeling the ways of the Jedi in real life by refusing to fight back against bullies. In Star Wars canon, the Jedi have many rules and laws that prohibit how and when they can use their extraordinary abilities. For example, the Jedi must never use their power for vengeance or personal gain and are also banned from marrying. Additionally, they must resist any feelings of anger and hatred for fear of turning to the Dark Side. Infamously, it was these very principles that turned Anakin Skywalker away from the Jedi and towards the Sith, and the most recent movie, The Last Jedi, went to great lengths to show how Jedi traditions were a thing of the past in the current timeline.
Nevertheless, the Jedi Code is a key part of Star Wars mythology and its teachings recently inspired 10 year-old Aiden Vazquez in dealing with a group of school bullies. Aiden was verbally and physically attacked this week at his place of education and, in addition to having his backpack stolen, ended up in hospital requiring stitches above his eye. Asked by his mother why he didn't fight back, Aiden replied that he learned from Star Wars that it wasn't the Jedi way to retaliate. This is reportedly not the first incident of bullying towards Aiden.

The youngster's attitude has now attracted the attention of Luke Skywalker himself; Mark Hamill praised Aiden's courage and wisdom on Twitter. Hamill, who is confirmed to be appearing in the forthcoming Episode IX, tweeted:
It's remarkable that, considering Aiden wasn't even born when the prequel trilogy began, the Star Wars stories can have such a meaningful impact on generation after generation of children. However, plenty of Jedi have acted in self-defense over the course of the Star Wars franchise. Unfortunately, real life bullying is rarely as easy to solve as Obi-Wan Kenobi lopping off someone's arm at the Mos Eisley Cantina or Luke Skywalker controlling the weak-willed with the wave of a hand.
In cases of bullying, it's almost impossible not to feel great anger and hatred towards your tormentors, and Aiden's remarkable self-restraint puts plenty of Jedi from the Star Wars franchise to shame, with many characters often playing fast and loose with their own sacred guidelines. And although the bullies may have succeeded in hurting Aiden on this occasion, it's the young Star Wars fan who will undoubtedly have the last laugh, coming away with the respect of a Hollywood A-lister and plenty of media coverage to ensure that his school take the proper action against the perpetrators involved.
