Sony has just announced its suite of free PlayStation Plus games for the month of September. Subscribers to the premium service will be able to get their hands on some seriously big titles this month, including Bungie's juggernaut online shooter, Destiny 2, and God of War III Remastered, the PS4 port of one of the PS3's greatest action games.

PlayStation 3 and Vita users will also gain access to games of their own, from the 20th anniversary re-release of Another World to the addictive marble-popping puzzler, Sparkle 2. Meanwhile, the VR title, Here They Lie, and the PlayLink trivia game, Knowledge is Power, continue to be available following their introduction last month.

PlayStation Plus has been delivering free games since 2010, but this might just be one of their best months ever. The aforementioned games will be available starting September 1.

Destiny 2

One of the biggest games of 2017, Activision's Destiny 2 is a loot-filled adventure through a sci-fi world of heroes fighting a never-ending battle against the myriad forces of darkness. Developer Bungie made their bones on acclaimed first person shooter franchises Marathon and Halo, so there's no shortage of high octane FPS action to behold in Destiny 2.

While it might seem surprising for Activision to allow one of their biggest games to be totally free, it's actually an ingenious marketing move. Destiny 2's latest expansion, Forsaken, requires both the original game and the previous two expansions. Basically, even with Destiny 2 entirely free, gamers who want to jump into the Forsaken content need to throw down $60, or the regular price of a brand new game.

Still, even without spending additional money, there's a lot to enjoy in the vanilla Destiny 2 experience, especially with friends, since the game features robust competitive and cooperative online offerings.

God of War III Remastered

The latest God of War earned universal praise for its storytelling, combat, and unprecedented visuals. For newcomers to the series who don't know much about the origins of Kratos, or for series veterans who want to relive one of his greatest adventures with a fresh coat of HD paint, look no further than God of War III Remastered.

Originally released on PS3 in March of 2010, the conclusion to the original God of War trilogy was refurbished for PS4 in July of 2015. This version added a slick new photo mode and included all of the original game's DLC, from costumes to the difficult Challenge of Exile stages.

PS3 Games

While the main offerings this month are on PS4, Sony's older console isn't being left in the cold. PS3 users will get Another World: 20th Anniversary Edition. One of the most celebrated PC games of all time, Another World was initially released back in 1991 before being ported to many other platforms over the years. The "20th Anniversary Edition" didn't hit PlayStation 3 until 2014, so it's really a "23rd Anniversary Edition," technically speaking. This version of the game is a Cross-Buy title, so it's also playable on PS4 and PS Vita.

PS3 gamers also receive access to Q.U.B.E: Director's Cut, which features Cross-Buy on PS4. As a first person puzzle game set in a mysterious facility using cutting-edge technology, it's impossible to avoid comparisons to Valve's Portal series, but it would be a mistake to dismiss this one. A sequel, Q.U.B.E. 2, was released earlier this year for PS4, PC, and Xbox One.

PS Vita Games

While the Vita never got the love it deserved, it's still receiving a pair of free titles this month. Sparkle 2 tasks the player with launching marbles of different colors in an effort to clear increasingly difficult stages. It's not unlike the Bust-a-Move series, and is a perfect portable puzzler for both short bursts and extended play sessions. Sparkle 2 offers Cross-Buy on both PS3 and PS4.

Finally, Foul Play is a side-scrolling brawler set on a theater stage, offering a unique twist on the tried-and-true fighting genre with its unique style and jolly sense of humor. The game allows Cross-Buy on PS4, which features two-player cooperative action.
